As part of regulations, Baseball players must wear a variety of clothing equipment as well as approved footwear. These days, the league approved equipment is used with different ratings for different equipment.

Additionally, the equipment is available in different ranges and encompasses different variables. These may include skill level, age, durability, etc. Let’s take a look into what kind of equipment you should have:

Baseball Clothing & Footwear

Apparel and Accessories

Baseball uniforms should have a set pattern and you must also keep the team colors in mind. Undershirts should have a single, solid color and should also match your uniforms’ color.

Other than the uniform, you also need to wear other equipment. These include

Gloves

Batting gloves increase the quality of your grip. This is important as you must keep a tight grip on the bat in order to hit the ball successfully.

These gloves also provide ventilation to your hands. Some batter gloves also come with cushions and padding which absorbs impact. This keeps your hands protected from the shock of a bat after you hit the ball.

You must get gloves that are your size. Also, keep in mind that the glove should complement your skill level and the grip of your bat.

Are there different sizes of gloves?

For defending teams, gloves may be of different sizes. The sizes are relative to your position on the outfield. Let’s go through these

  • Gloves for outfielders are long and have pockets as well as webbings
  • Infield gloves are small and have shallow pockets with tight webbings
  • Gloves for pitchers have closed webbing
  • Gloves for the first base don’t have fingers but have additional padding

Helmets

Helmets protect your head from any kind of dangerous pitching. These are available in different sizes for both adults and children.

Are there any regulations in place for helmets?

Batting helmets for the major league normally have an ear flap. This, as the name suggests, protects your ear from being hit by a ball. Minor League players are required to wear a helmet that uses double ear flaps.

Catchers use a mask like a helmet. This helmet is also known as the “catcher’s mask” and has likeliness to the ice-hockey goaltender’s helmet. They have a mask that protects your face and part of the throat. Another section of the helmet protects the top of your head.

Other Protective Gear

Padding for your ankles and legs is available. Furthermore, you can also get padding for your arms.

We found that these are designed to be lightweight as well as provide you with the maximum amount of protection.

Footwear

To maximize your performance on the field, you need to wear cleats. These are specially made for baseball and softball. We recommend that you get shoes that fit you and are comfortable to wear.

Baseball Caps and Sunglasses

Baseball caps are a part of everyday fashion these days. They have a standard design even for baseball players. They typically feature the logo of the team along with the team colors.

One thing we found interesting is that the caps of pitchers are reinforced. This protects them from line drivers.

Furthermore, sunglasses are another part of your gear which are important. They may not be compulsory but they can save your eyes from glare.
